Together, Neville & Michael have blossomed Woods Hole into both a hostel and B&B where where sitting on the porch may not be the only thing you’ll do on your visit. You may find yourself helping with carpentry projects, gardening, landscaping, tending to the livestock, catching up with the hikers, practicing free style yoga in the yard, or helping to make a wholesome meal from scratch utilizing farm fresh and/or local ingredients.
Neville has been coming to Woods Hole since she was three (1981). She grew up in the hiker community and watched her grandparents, Tillie & Roy Wood, add onto the 1880’s log cabin, building a kitchen, and a bunkhouse with the spare logs.
Neville and her grandmother, Mama Tillie, formed a close bond over the years. For the last two years, before passing, that Tillie came to the cabin, Neville assisted her full time in operating the hostel. She found herself re-connecting to life and nature on her visits to Woods Hole.
Having grown up close to nature, Michael has been an avid backpacker and outdoor enthusiast his whole life. Michael met Neville on his thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail on July 6, 2005 at Woods Hole. Michael was getting away from the hustle and bustle of fast paced city life. His career had been as Protein Biochemist/Molecular Engineer in the Bio-Pharmaceutical Industry. Prior to working in the industry he received his Undergraduate Degree in Biochemistry/Chemistry from Penn State and underwent Advance Biochemistry/Protein Biology Graduate Studies at Harvard University, Tufts & Northeastern University in Boston.
Shifting his mindset to a Holistic/Allopathic pathway, Michael received his Massage Therapy Certification from the Cayce/Reilly Institute in Virginia Beach, VA. He also completed a three year intensive rhythm therapy training with Master Percussionists, Reinhard & Cornelia Flatischler, and is a Certified TaKeTiNa Teacher.
Most currently, Michael focus’ his energy and time on organic gardening, animal husbandry, pottery, stewarding the land and music (hand percussion, acoustic guitar and bass). Let’s just say he is a jack of all trades.
Neville & Michael are both Nationally and State licensed massage therapists practicing at the hostel.
Neville received her Massage Certification at the Whole You School of Massage outside of Asheville, North Carolina. She also received her Yoga Teacher Certification in 2010 with Anna Pittman, at the Breathing Space in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Prior, Neville completed a Masters in Art Education at North Georgia College & State University and an Undergraduate Degree in Art from The University of Georgia.
Neville also practices Vipassana meditation daily and enjoys sharing Yoga by request without charge.
Woods Hole has been a source of love for the two. Not only did they meet here, fall in love here, and propose to each other here.. They also married here on August, 1 2009.
Neville & Michael opened the hostel full time in April 2009. They offer a host of Appalachian Trail Services, Massage Therapy, Yoga, and Family Style Meals with offering from the Organic Gardens & Farm Raised Livestock.
“Our goal is to create a holistic environment: A sustainable community where artistic, musical, natural, and healthy creativity from the trail or life is possible.”
